Despite a Challenging Year, InoBat closes 2025 with profit

  • The collapse of its largest client and difficult conditions in the battery market forced the company to change its core focus.
  • The company’s new strategic direction is the large-scale battery energy storage segment under the new brand BESSMONT by InoBat.
  • InoBat continues to see interest in its high-performance NMC-based cells and is working on the industrialization of its know-how with partners in specialized market segments.
  • Additional projects with capacities exceeding 100 MWh and the potential for several installations per year are in preparation.

Despite a challenging year in the European battery industry, Slovak company InoBat closed 2025 with revenues in the tens of millions of euros.

According to preliminary results, the company achieved a profit last year with revenues in the tens of millions of euros.

“Last year’s key milestone was our strategic shift into the battery energy storage systems (BESS) sector, which became our new source of revenue. Closing the year with a profit confirms that this strategy was the right one,” explains InoBat’s co-founder and CEO, Marián Boček. “2025 was an existential test for us. The collapse of a key customer forced us to make difficult decisions, including layoffs, which we handled with dignity.”

Strategic partnerships with major market players are crucial to success, especially during challenging times for the battery sector. In 2025, the European battery market underwent significant restructuring: 12 out of 16 planned European gigafactories were suspended or canceled, primarily due to pressure from lower-cost competition from Asia. Only those factories that partnered with strong Korean or Chinese players have survived.

InoBat chose this path in time. Its partnership with Chinese company Gotion aligned with this market development and proved to be the right strategic decision.

InoBat was founded as an innovative startup with a vision rarely seen in Slovakia. During its early years, it built an exceptionally strong team of international experts who worked on projects with tangible results. These achievements successfully placed InoBat on the European map and naturally attracted the interest of global investors and partners such as Rio Tinto, Amara Raja, and Gotion.

Turning in a new direction

In response to rapid market developments, InoBat underwent a significant transformation in 2025. Thanks to its swift reaction and strategic approach, the company managed to navigate the situation and set new goals. Its new strategic direction is the large-scale battery energy storage segment under the brand BESSMONT by InoBat.

The battery storage segment is crucial for Europe,” explains InoBat’s COO, Victoria Vernarecová. “Industrial enterprises need stable and predictable energy sources. Our solutions allow them to reduce dependence on the grid, optimize costs, and increase resilience against outages.”

Results came quickly. In record time—21 weeks—InoBat delivered BESS technology for a 175 MWh project in Ukraine and simultaneously launched the implementation of its first turnkey BESS installation for OFZ with a capacity of 30 MWh. Additional projects exceeding 100 MWh are in preparation, with the potential for several installations annually. InoBat has also begun an extensive reconstruction of its plant in Voderady. In addition to existing R&D laboratories and a battery cell production line, the site will include area for large-scale energy storage production. At full capacity, the BESS production line can manufacture up to four containers per day, representing a total annual capacity of up to 5 GWh. This will enable the production of industrial-scale products with European origin.

InoBat’s new focus on sodium-ion cells strengthens European raw material independence.

Compared to the more common LFP cells, sodium-ion cells offer advantages particularly in safety, temperature resistance, and cost efficiency. InoBat has established a strategic partnership with Clarios, a leading supplier to the automotive segment, for which it is currently producing sodium-ion battery prototypes at its Voderady facility. Development in this area is focused on applications in both the automotive sector and BESS.

InoBat also continues to see sustained interest in its high-performance NMC-based cells and is working on industrializing its know-how, effectively capitalizing on the results of six years of research and development. In parallel, research and development in Voderady continues on NMC chemistry solutions with high silicon (Si) content.

At the same time, InoBat supports the development of electromobility through its joint venture with Gotion under the name GIB. Construction of the €1.2 billion gigafactory in Šurany is progressing according to plan. For Slovakia, this represents one of the most significant industrial projects and a signal that the country can be not only Europe’s assembly base, but also home to technology leaders with their own proprietary know-how.
