InoBat Battery Energy Storage System to Strengthen Energy Security of OFZ Steel Plant in Orava

InoBat is strengthening the energy independence of metallurgical company OFZ through the installation of a battery energy storage system (BESS) with a total capacity of 30 MWh.

This project represents InoBat’s first largest installation in Slovakia under its new BESSMONT brand, which marks the launch of a new business segment focused on comprehensive energy solutions. The project at OFZ’s production facility in Oravský Podzámok was designed to enhance energy security and operational stability in an energy-intensive manufacturing environment.

“For energy-intensive production, an on-site battery storage system is a strategic solution. It allows us to manage peak demand more efficiently and respond flexibly to electricity price volatility,” said Michal Bajo, Project Manager at OFZ. “InoBat designed a solution precisely tailored to our operations. We particularly value the long-term partnership with a company that understands the specifics of industrial manufacturing and provides comprehensive support throughout the entire lifecycle of the system.”

A Tailor-Made, Cost-Efficient Solution for Energy-Intensive Industry

In the first phase of the project, which is co-financed by Slovakia’s Recovery and Resilience Plan, six containerized battery storage units were delivered to the OFZ production plant. The system has a total storage capacity of 30 MWh and a planned system performance of 10 MW. This advanced energy storage solution will enable OFZ to manage energy more efficiently and stabilize energy flows during production peaks.

The system is designed to deliver measurable operating cost savings while also contributing to the reduction of the carbon footprint of the manufacturing process. This is achieved through the integration of an Energy Management System (EMS) and Power Conversion System (PCS). The EMS monitors battery status and grid requirements, dynamically controlling charging and discharging cycles, while the PCS and MV skid ensures efficient conversion of electrical power between the battery system and the grid.

“Slovak industry needs solutions that deliver genuine energy independence and operational stability,” added Victoria Vernarecová, COO of InoBat. “With BESSMONT, we are not positioning ourselves merely as a technology supplier, but as a long-term partner in efficient energy management. We are currently implementing several projects, with further plans to be unveiled as part of InoBat’s new corporate strategy.”

Beyond the delivery of the BESS solution itself, the project also includes complete construction and electrical installation works, development of the necessary infrastructure, and preparation for full integration into the EMS and PCS systems. Final project handover, including technical testing and fully integrated operation, is scheduled for the end of March 2026.
